I’ve been in the thick of it as a sales executive selling to businesses. I know all about closing high-ticket, 5-and-6-figure deals, and I’ve leveraged that experience in my work as a B2B sales coach.

Over the years, I’ve seen it all – the real deal strategies that bring in the wins, and the… well… not-so-great advice that floats around online.

I’m all about cutting through the noise and bringing you what truly works, so you can crush your sales game just like I’ve done.

So, let’s talk about some common slip-ups I’ve seen in B2B sales – both in the digital world and face-to-face. I’ll also share some important tips to help you avoid these mistakes.

Grab your coffee, and let’s dive in!

Mistake 1: Putting All Your Eggs in the LinkedIn Basket

Sure, LinkedIn is great – but it’s not the be-all and end-all. There are so many other killer strategies out there. I’ve snagged some of my best leads by connecting with ‘Super Connectors’ – people who just seem to know everyone.

Melinda’s Tip: Don’t limit your outreach to just one platform. There are other, much more powerful, sales strategies out there. Want to know more? Download my 10 Secret Strategies for Getting in Front of Big Clients https://hi.switchy.io/KEXh.

Mistake 2: The LinkedIn Time Trap

We’ve all heard it: ‘Engage on LinkedIn, and the engagement will come to you.’ That’s only half-true. Why?

You need to make sure you’re chatting up the right folks – your potential clients; not just anyone.

I’ve seen too many smart ladies lose their spark scrolling endlessly, or feeling down comparing themselves to others.

Melinda’s Tip: Keep your LinkedIn game sharp and focused. Skip the stuff that doesn’t help your sales or your spirit. It’s all about being smart with your time and energy.

Mistake 3: Thinking ‘Attraction Marketing’ is a Magic Bullet

Attraction marketing sounds fabulous, but it’s a bit like slow-cooking – it takes time and a lot of stirring. Don’t get me wrong; it’s great, but it’s not the only way to land those big-fish clients.

In my years of supporting women business owners, whenever I hear a success story, I always ask, ‘How’d you land that client?’ Believe it or not, 90% of the time it’s through good old referrals, networking, or past clients. Social media does its bit too, but it’s more like the cherry on top, rather than the whole sundae.

Melinda’s Tip: In today’s competitive market, you’re leaving cash on the table if you’re not playing around with different sales tactics. Ready to put sales front and center in your business? Mistake 4: Throwing in the Towel Too Soon

When you’re reaching out to big decision-makers, patience is your best friend. These people are generally swamped, and will get back to you when they really need what you’re offering. I’ve seen too many people get discouraged when replies don’t flood in immediately.

Melinda’s Tip: Consistent follow-up is your secret weapon here. This builds trust and keeps you on the radar of those high-flying decision-makers. Need a hand keeping your engagement on point? Check out our Engagement Calendar: https://hi.switchy.io/Jfeu

Mistake 5: Vague Targeting = Missed Opportunities

We know we want more clients. But sometimes, we don’t have a clear idea of who those clients are. Without a clear goal, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and confused about what we should be focusing on.

You’ll often hear me say that half your sales success comes from having a good list – a list of people who urgently need your service. Once you’ve got a good list, your sales efforts become so much easier.

Melinda’s Tip: Create a targeted prospect list. A crystal-clear list of who needs your services yesterday is half your battle won. When you know who you’re after, everything else falls into place. Sales become smoother, and you become the sales superstar you were born to be.
